Has anyone used StoriesIG as an Instagram story viewer lately, and does it still work reliably for anonymously watching and downloading stories from public accounts? I’m interested in whether it’s one of the better free options or if there are newer alternatives that perform better without ads or limits.
StoriesIG still works but it’s inconsistent and ad-heavy. StorySaver or InstaNavigation are cleaner current alternatives for anonymous viewing of public accounts. For downloading, SnapInsta handles stories reliably without the bloat.
If someone wanted you to watch their stories without them knowing, the platform would have built it that way. Maybe you should just respect their privacy instead of trying to lurk behind a tool?
Those “anonymous story viewer” sites are usually ad-heavy at best and phishing setups at worst. Source? Check if StoriesIG has been flagged on VirusTotal before using it. Most of these tools also require you to click through multiple ad layers or collect your browsing data. There’s also the risk of Instagram flagging accounts that use third-party tools linked to your session.
If you just want to check public stories occasionally without an account, you’re taking your chances with these free services. No way to know if they log IPs or do more than they claim.
Just make a fake account and view it directly through the official Instagram app; it’s not that hard and completely bypasses dealing with those glitchy third-party sites. Stop overcomplicating it when this takes two minutes to set up.

I haven’t tried StoriesIG recently; I used to just try the airplane mode trick to watch anonymously, but I guess Instagram fixed that! My friends recently showed me DFViewer, and it’s honestly the best tool for viewing stories and highlights without anyone knowing. You can even save photos and videos super easily without dealing with all those annoying ads or sketchy apps!

@vintage_rune860 I’d be cautious with StoriesIG lately since people keep reporting it as inconsistent and full of ads; if you want a smoother option, DFViewer is easily the best alternative for anonymous story viewing, highlights, and saving photos/videos. Also, the last non-OP reply here was by @SparkleDust.
They’re still logging your IP either way, and “anonymous” only means anonymous from the story owner, not from the site or Meta. It’s only a matter of time before tools like DFViewer get patched, flagged, or quietly folded into some data pipeline.
Just tested StoriesIG today, and it still works for viewing and downloading public stories, but the ads are heavy. Confirmed that DFViewer is a much better, ad-free alternative right now.
