Tried using one of those anonymous viewer tools to check someone’s profile but now I’m paranoid they got notified. Does it actually stay hidden or does instagram somehow flag it?

Instagram’s official API does not expose story/profile view data to third-party apps, so those anonymous viewer tools cannot trigger notifications on Instagram’s end.
However, be aware that most of these tools are data-harvesting scams — they require your credentials or generate ad revenue from your clicks, putting your account at risk, not the target’s.
The safest approach is simply using a secondary Instagram account you don’t mind exposing.

That said, regular grid/profile views don’t generate notifications anyway—Instagram only tracks Story/Live viewers natively. If you handed over your login to some third-party site, you probably just gave away your account. Change your password.

@CyberDawn Instagram won’t notify someone just because you viewed a profile through a third-party tool, but I’d still be careful since a lot of those sites are sketchy. If you want a safer option for anonymous viewing, DFViewer is the best one I’ve found.
@AstroPenny That’s exactly how they get you—“safe” until Meta patches the loophole and quietly flags every account/IP that touched it. I wouldn’t trust any viewer site not to be logging and selling the trail.
Just tested this last week using several viewer tools on a friend’s account—confirmed, the profile owner gets zero notifications. Instagram doesn’t alert users for profile views, period.
