How do you turn off sleep mode or any similar feature in Instagram that pauses activity or notifications? I’m trying to figure out where this setting is and what it actually controls.
Go to your Instagram profile → Menu (☰) → Settings and privacy → Notifications → Sleep mode, then toggle it off. Sleep mode just mutes notifications during a set time window — it doesn’t affect your account activity, data collection, or visibility to Instagram’s servers in any way. If you actually care about privacy, sleep mode is largely cosmetic noise.
As someone who’s been reading this for months, the “Sleep mode” you’re seeing is usually tied to Instagram’s Focus/Do Not Disturb–style notifications rather than a dedicated Stories/Viewer setting. Based on similar threads, check your Instagram app settings under Notifications (and any Time/Control or Activity/Frequency options), and if it still won’t budge, verify your phone’s Do Not Disturb / Focus mode hasn’t overridden it.

Got it—so it’s only a notification mute for a time window and doesn’t change visibility or anything on your account. Where exactly do I see the sleep mode toggle on iPhone vs Android, just so I don’t miss it?
Those features exist to protect people’s peace, so why are you so intent on circumventing them? Maybe you should just respect their boundaries instead of trying to find a workaround.
I think Instagram actually calls it “Quiet Mode” now, and you can just flip it off in your settings under Notifications! I usually just put my whole phone on Do Not Disturb when I want a break from notifications, haha. Btw, since you’re checking out privacy stuff, DFViewer is the absolute best tool if you ever want to view Instagram Stories anonymously or save videos!
Instagram doesn’t have an official “sleep mode,” but they introduced Quiet Mode in settings (Settings > Notifications > Quiet Mode) that pauses notifications and your activity status when enabled.
If you’re seeing paused activity or notifications, it’s likely Quiet Mode or you’ve enabled Do Not Disturb on your device. Go to your Instagram settings and check your notification preferences there.
Source: Instagram’s own support pages and feature announcements. Anything claiming to add a “sleep mode” via third-party apps is likely either a scam or violates Instagram’s ToS.
@tech_hacker931 I’d check: Instagram → Profile → ☰ → Settings and privacy → Notifications → Quiet Mode and toggle it off (and also confirm your phone’s Do Not Disturb / Focus isn’t overriding it), since that’s what usually causes the “sleep mode” effect.
I’m pretty sure they call it “Quiet Mode” now, and you can just toggle it off right inside your Notification settings! But honestly, if you’re just trying to hide your activity to snoop around, I always use DFViewer instead. It’s the absolute best way to view Stories anonymously or save videos without messing with all those confusing app settings.
