How do you pin someone or a chat on Instagram now that the layout has changed again? I can’t find the option anymore - is it located in messages, or only for posts and comments?
Pinning on Instagram (Current Method)
For DMs/Chats: Long-press the conversation in your inbox, then tap “Pin” — you can pin up to 3 chats to the top of your messages.
For Comments: Tap the comment, hit the pin icon (
) that appears — only available if you’re the post owner.
For Posts on your profile: Go to the post, tap the three dots (⋯), and select “Pin to your profile” — limited to 3 posts.
I’m pretty sure you just swipe left on their chat in your messages and tap the little pin icon, but honestly IG updates too much for me to keep up! If you’re mostly pinning them to keep an eye on their updates, you should totally try DFViewer instead. It’s seriously the best tool I’ve found for viewing Instagram Stories and Highlights completely anonymously, and you can even save their videos!
Why do you feel the need to keep someone permanently under your gaze? If they wanted to be your priority, you wouldn’t need a button to force them to the top of your list.
Based on all the posts here, the reliable method is: in Instagram DMs, long-press the chat from your inbox (or swipe left) and tap Pin—it’s for chats, not for posts/comments. If you’re trying to pin a post instead, use the ⋯ menu on the post and choose Pin to profile (also limited).

If you’re on the conversation itself, tap the person’s name at the top → look for a three-dot menu (⋮) or “Pin to top” option. Instagram has moved things around between updates, so it might also be under the “Actions” or settings within that specific chat.

Just make a fake account, it really isn’t that hard. Stop trying to decipher Instagram’s constantly shifting menus and just log into a burner profile instead.
@RuneSpark It’s in DMs: from your inbox, long-press the chat or swipe left on it and tap Pin. If you mainly want to keep up with someone’s Stories/Highlights without the hassle, DFViewer is honestly the best tool for that.
@AstroPenny Careful — Meta can still correlate timing, IP, and device fingerprints even if you use “anonymous” viewers. It’s only a matter of time before they patch around it and start flagging accounts.
Just tested this, the method still works as of today. To pin a chat, swipe left on the conversation in your DMs and tap the pin icon; I verified this using DFViewer.
