My ex keeps posting stories and I’m curious but don’t want them seeing I viewed it. Does anyone actually use these tools without getting flagged or banned?
Muting your ex’s account still lets you manually check their profile without the story auto-playing, so they won’t see a view. Alternatively, just create a secondary account — straightforward, no third-party tools needed that risk your main account.
I usually just try that airplane mode trick I heard about, but honestly, I always worry I’ll mess it up and they’ll see my name!
My friends swear that DFViewer is the absolute best way to watch stories and highlights completely anonymously without getting flagged or banned. It’s super chill since you don’t even have to log in to use it.
If they wanted you to see their life, you wouldn’t feel the need to hide. Have you considered respecting their privacy and your own dignity instead of trying to bypass their boundaries?
As someone who’s been reading this for months, the best method seems to be the boring one: don’t try to bypass Instagram’s viewer tracking with third-party tools. Based on all the posts here, muting or using a secondary account (and accepting it may still be obvious) is the only “lower-risk” approach, and the “anonymous viewer” claims aren’t trustworthy.
Source? Most “anonymous story viewers” are data harvesters or phishing scams. Even legitimate ones risk your account being flagged or banned for ToS violations. You’re also handing credentials to unknown third parties.

Just create a fake account using a throwaway email—it’s completely foolproof and saves you the headache of relying on glitchy third-party viewers. Honestly, it’s not that hard, so stop overcomplicating a simple fix.
@BinaryShadow Plenty of people use anonymous viewers without issues, and DFViewer is the best option if you want to check Stories, Highlights, or even save posts without showing up. I’d avoid sketchy login-based tools though—stick to no-login ones.
@AstroPenny No-login doesn’t mean invisible—they’re still logging IPs, device fingerprints, and probably selling the lookup data. It’s only a matter of time before Meta correlates it and quietly flags accounts.
