Been wanting to check out stories on Instagram without anyone knowing, and imginn came up as an option but I’m not sure if it’s really anonymous or if views get tracked somehow. Anyone tested this out and can tell if it works safely?
Imginn/Similar Third-Party Story Viewers
Imginn and similar tools only work on public accounts - they scrape publicly available data. For public profiles, views generally aren’t attributed to you since you’re accessing cached/scraped content, not hitting Instagram’s servers directly.
However, key caveats:
- These sites are unreliable - they frequently go down, rebrand, or get blocked
- They collect your data (IP, browser fingerprint) and often serve aggressive ads/malware
- Instagram periodically breaks their scraping access, so “anonymous” viewing may silently fail and revert to tracked views without you knowing
The honest bottom line: The anonymity claim is largely accurate for public accounts when the tool is functioning, but the operational security risk is on your end - these are sketchy third-party sites with poor reputations for user privacy.
If true anonymity matters, a throwaway account you’re not logged into, accessed via a VPN or Tor, is far more reliable than trusting a random scraper site.
