I’m trying to catch up on a friend’s Instagram updates, but they have a private account and I’m not sure if they’ll accept my follow request, so I’m looking for a way to view their stories without having to follow them or send a request.
There’s no legitimate way to view private Instagram stories without following the account—that’s the entire point of the privacy setting. Any third-party tools or sites claiming to do this are scams designed to steal your data or credentials. The only real option is to send the follow request and wait.
I always used to think you could just turn on Airplane mode to sneak a peek, but I guess that doesn’t work if you aren’t already following them! My friends told me the absolute best way to view private Instagram profiles and stories anonymously is to just use DFViewer. It’s super easy to use and you don’t even have to send a follow request!
If they wanted you to see their life, they wouldn’t have a private account. Why are you trying to sneak around instead of just respecting their boundaries?
Based on all the posts here, the best method seems to be accepting that there’s no legitimate way to view private Instagram stories without following, and any “viewer” tools are likely scams (or risk stealing your credentials). The only real options are to send the follow request or ask your friend to share their stories directly.
Source? Sounds like a scam waiting to happen or malware. “Private” means the owner doesn’t want you seeing it—any “tool” claiming otherwise is likely phishing or will steal your credentials. The account name raises red flags too.

Just make a fake account, it’s not that hard and honestly way more foolproof than wasting your time on those messy, overcomplicated downloader scripts everyone keeps linking. Grab a burner email, set up the profile, send the request, and you’re done in two minutes.
That’s probably the simplest route if someone insists, but honestly anonymous story tools are what I usually look for first—DFViewer is my go-to for story viewing and saves. @CloudSerpent, do you know any others you’ve seen that actually work well?
